1 Day Until NaNoWriMo

I just got a crazy idea for a challenge. I'm going to try to write a blog post every day this November. Speaking of which...that's tomorrow! NaNoWriMo(National Novel Writing Month) starts in just a matter of hours. I'm super excited and will do my utmost to finish book four, "The Gates of Myth". That's my first priority.

Anyway, I've been busy re-reading my other three books. Even the author has to refresh her memory sometimes. I hope you all have a great day, and thanks to everyone who reads my stuff. Later folks!

Oh, by the way, you can find out more about "The Gates of Myth" all in one place as I updated my books page on my website. Here's the link.

An Update On My Fallen Faeries Comic and ComicsExperience.com

It may look like I haven't been doing any work on my comic series, Fallen Faeries, but I've actually been very busy with it. I chose to work on part of it as an assignment for a comic class. I've gotten some wonderful critiques and advice that I hope will make this comic even better. Tonight wrapped up that class, and it was a great one. I want to thank Comics Experience for all their wonderful courses and the people that make them possible. Reilly Brown and Robert Atkins have been great teachers and helped me improve so much, so I want to say a special thanks to both of them.

From figure drawing to making full fledged comic pages, my classes were a really fun, if challenging, experience. If anyone reading this is interested in taking some great college level comic making classes, I highly recommend you check out comicsexperience.com. They have great stuff, including courses, an online workshop, and now even publishing through IDW. There are some very nice and awesome people over there, and it's a great opportunity for anyone who loves comic creation. I might have become a full time workshop member except I already spent my share of money for now on classes.

Anyway, I revamped the first two pages of Fallen Faeries based on some good advice. The trees were very off for one thing. Then there was the fact that the characters had eyes that were a little too high on their faces. That and a few extra rendering additions later made these:

Two Weeks Until NaNoWriMo!

You saw the title. NaNoWriMo is almost here, and I'll finally finish book four of my fantasy series, entitled "The Gates of Myth". I haven't had much to say for a little while, mostly because I've been so busy with classes, but I'm ready for more blogging.

Some interesting things I have to tell you about are:

  1. I posted the book trailer for "The Gates of Myth"! This is the Youtube link, but you can also see it below!
  2. In addition to finishing book four for NaNoWriMo this year, I'm also writing a graphic novel script for The Ocean's Call. It's what I have officially listed as my novel this year, because you aren't supposed to write works in progress. That's a ridiculous rule in my opinion, but I'm a good little rule follower.
  3. I might be going to Denver's NaNoWriMo kick off party. I'm super shy when it comes to meeting new people, so that would be a good thing for me to push myself to do. If any of you live in or near Denver, and you are also participating in NaNoWriMo, please let me know. I'd love to meet you! Write-ins are fun, and they're a great way to get together with other local writers.
Anyway, here is the book trailer:

Thanks for checking out this blog post, and thanks to everyone who reads my books! Later folks!

24 Hour Comic Day 2014: The End

Well, I had to crash and take a long nap. The 24 hours are up, so instead of taking the Gaiman approach and making 14 more pages in a row, I'm taking the Eastman approach and stopping at 10 pages. Both are considered "noble failures".

So I hope you enjoyed my first attempt at 24 hour comic day. I may or may not do it again in the future. It was definitely fun. One awesome thing I learned along the way, is that I really can produce art faster than I imagined if I put my mind to it. Yesterday was an experience worth having at least once.

Thanks for checking out what I've posted, even if it isn't my best work and the plot kind of sucks. Later!

24 Hour Comic Day 2014: Page 10

Here's page 10. Hopefully I can reach the half way mark by 10am today. :P

24 Hour Comic Day 2014: Page 9

I'm so tired, I accidentally started working on page 10 first. That means it will be done really soon. So, since I managed to catch myself before I got too off track, here is page 9.

24 Hour Comic Day 2014: Page 8

I'm a third done! Yay! ... Well, I won't be totally done within the 24 hour goal, but hey, it's progress!

24 Hour Comic Day 2014: Page 7

I'm thinking I may not finish this comic during the 24 hour time frame. I'm working my butt off though. I will finish this thing, whether in 24 hours or 48...we'll see.

24 Hour Comic Day 2014: Page 6

It's the 12 hour mark, and I already finished another page! That foundation work really takes awhile. Well, here you go.

24 Hour Comic Day 2014: Page 5

Since I started at 10am, I have twelve and a half hours to finish on time. That's not much, but I'll do my best. I have been doing some foundation work though, so here is page 5. More will come soon.

24 Hour Comic Day 2014: Page 4

Okay... I must hate myself. I put way to many panels and figures in this page. That's why it took so long. I really better get moving more quickly.

24 Hour Comic Day 2014: Page 3

I'm running behind already! Better get moving faster. BTW, the sword is supposed to be on fire.

24 Hour Comic Day 2014: Page 2

Okay. This one could have been worse, but still. :P

24 Hour Comic Day 2014: Page 1

Okay, this is way too detailed for me to get done in time. The line art by itself is kind of sad, so I colored and shaded it. That can come later I guess if I have time. It's line art from now on. Enjoy page 1!

24 Hour Comic Day 2014

Okay. I am officially crazy. I signed up for 24 hour comic day which is tomorrow. 24 hour comic day is where you make a 24 page comic book in--guess what--24 hours!

I'll be posting my progress on this blog over the course of the day. Hopefully it will turn out halfway decent. :P Wish me luck. Later!
